1. PATHOGENETIC DIAGNOSTICS

Our histopathological diagnostic activity involves a full pathological examination of tissue sections removed by our clinical colleagues, including macroscopic and microscopic examination of pre-fixed tissue sections. In our complex histology laboratory, we are able to perform a wide range of tests: in addition to the traditional hematoxylin-eosin (H&E) stained sections, we also perform special tests (e.g. immunohistochemistry, special staining, molecular tests), all of which contribute to the most accurate histological diagnosis. We consider it essential that our histopathological findings comply with the latest professional guidelines, as this is the only way to provide high quality diagnostics that contribute to the most optimal care of our patients and to the design of the most personalised therapies. We believe that waiting for a histological result is always a very emotional stress for the patient, and therefore our priority is to perform our diagnostic activities with the shortest possible diagnostic turnaround time.

2. CYTOPATHOLOGICAL DIAGNOSTICS

There are an extremely large number of clinical situations in which the rapid sampling of certain lesions, with the least possible inconvenience to the patient, is necessary. In our cytopathological examinations, samples are processed partly for screening (e.g. gynaecological screening) and partly for diagnostic purposes by minimally invasive invasive sampling. In addition to H&E stained sections, we also have the possibility to perform complementary tests (special staining, immunocytochemical tests) to further increase diagnostic accuracy. The smears from the partly exfoliative and partly fine needle aspiration examination are evaluated by our pre-screening staff or by our cytopathologists.
These examinations allow the accurate and rapid diagnosis of certain lesions, the determination of the inflammatory/tumour origin and the clarification of the dignity. In the case of benign results, further, more burdensome histological sampling can be avoided.

We have recently expanded our cytopathology activities: in addition to the traditional smear-based cytology, we now also perform liquid-based cytology. Although this method is mainly performed on gynaecological samples, our laboratory is equipped to perform liquid-based analysis of cell samples from other organs.
Thin layer cell clusters can be analysed in an optimal environment with minimal background/artificial products, further increasing diagnostic accuracy.

3. MOLECULAR TESTS, HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS (HPV) DIAGNOSTICS

With the continuous development of science, cytopathology has also undergone significant progress in recent decades. In addition to the introduction of immunocytochemistry and the spread of the liquid-based method, it is now possible to perform molecular tests on cytological samples. We consider it a major step forward that we now also perform molecular testing on our liquid-based gynaecological specimens: using a PCR-based technique, we can detect the presence of high-risk human papillomavirus (HR-HPV) by genotyping the types most commonly causing malignant lesions (HPV16 and HPV18). Using our special stains (p16-Ki67 dual stain), we can also determine which high-risk, high-priority HPV types are transient and which cases are at higher risk of developing severe cervical lesions. In order to identify HPV infections and their actual role, further specific tests are planned to be introduced in the near future: molecular detection of DNA methylation markers will further refine the cases at high risk, thus identifying female patients requiring closer clinical control. It is of paramount importance to provide such a strong preventive background for the patients who use our services.

4. IT BACK-UP SUPPORT

To ensure the fastest possible information and secure data flow, our company uses an electronic test request system for both histological and cytological sample analysis. We use this software to record the medical data that are absolutely necessary for our diagnostic tasks, protected by state-of-the-art encryption procedures.

The physician ordering the histology/cytology/other laboratory tests uploads the data necessary for the identification of the specimen to our system with his/her own personal access. The histology/cytology report, which is completed after the pathology examination and electronically signed, is also recorded by our staff with their own access. With online, immediate data transfer and appropriate access, the clinician ordering the tests can be informed of the results as quickly as possible. If requested by our partners, we can also send the finished report to the healthcare institution in printed format, with a medical stamp and hand stamp. It is important to note that a given doctor has access only to the histological or cytological results of treatments carried out in his own institution, not to those of other collaborating healthcare providers.

5. ASPIRATION CYTOLOGY

Our future plans include the provision of a modern, air-conditioned, ultrasound-equipped aspiration cytology clinic, part of our laboratory, where ultrasound-guided aspiration cytology examinations can be performed by appointment during designated office hours. Currently, our aspiration cytology services are still available off-site.

6. SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

In addition to our histopathology and cytopathology activities, we are regularly involved in scientific research in collaboration with clinical colleagues. In collaboration with our clinicians, we support the research activities of our colleagues by performing specialised studies on fresh tissue samples or on tissue blocks from our archives.

gén szinten határozzuk meg magas kockázatú (high-risk/HR) humán papillóma vírusok (HPV) jelenlétét nőgyógyászati vizsgálat során vett mintákból
HR-HPV fertőzés fennállása során fehérje szinten határozzuk meg annak hámsejtekben betöltött szerepét: információt nyerünk a fertőzés aktivitásáról (p16/Ki67 kettős festés)
a fentiekkel párhuzamosan cytológiai vizsgálatot is végzünk, hogy feltérképezzük a vírus hámsejtekre gyakorolt hatását, kimutassuk a már kialakult hámelváltozásokat
